Social menu

The menu location that feeds the brand-icon rows, and the three places it can appear.

Appearance → Menus → Menu Settings → Social Menu. One menu of profile links, printed as icons.

Building it

Add each profile as a Custom Link:

Field
URL https://bsky.app/profile/you
Link Text Bluesky — never printed, but read aloud by a screen reader

Repeat for each network, then tick Social Menu and save.

Stoat picks the icon from the URL, so there is nothing else to choose. The full list of recognised networks is on social icons in the header.

Where it shows

Place Controlled by
The header bar Customize → Header → Display the social links
The mobile drawer the same switch
The footer (not in 1.4.1 — see below)

The header switch covers both the bar and the drawer, because the drawer’s copy is the bar’s row below the tablet width.

On the footer. Stoat 1.4.1’s footer prints the copyright line and the footer menu only; there is no social row there yet. Put your profiles in a footer widget if you want them at the bottom of the page as well.

Depth 1

Sub-menu items under a social link are ignored. The item is an icon, and there is nowhere for a dropdown to hang off one.

Accessibility

Each icon is decorative; the label you typed stays in the markup as screen-reader text, so Bluesky is what a screen reader announces. This is why the Link Text field is worth filling in properly even though nobody sees it — write the network’s name, not “click here” or the URL.

Each copy of the row gets its own label (Social links, Mobile menu), so two rows on one page are distinguishable.
