Customize → Single post → Display author box? On by default.
Under each post, above the comments, the theme prints a card with the author’s avatar, name and bio. The name links to that author’s archive.
Filling it in
The content comes from the user profile, not from the post: Users → Profile (your own) or Users → All Users → Edit.

An author with an empty bio gets a card with a name and nothing under it, which looks like a mistake. Write the bio, or turn the box off.
Two or three sentences is right. Who you are, why you write about this, and one link if you want one — the field accepts basic HTML, so a link works.
Avatars
Avatars are a core WordPress feature: Settings → Discussion → Show Avatars. The image comes from Gravatar, matched to the account’s email address.
If you would rather not depend on Gravatar, a plugin that lets each user upload a local avatar works fine — the theme just calls the standard avatar function.
With avatars switched off entirely, the box still renders with the name and bio, laid out without the image.
When to turn it off
A single-author blog. If every post on the site is by you, a card under every post saying so is repetition — and the visitor learned it from the site title. Turn it off and put your bio on an About page instead.
A site with real bylines is where the box earns its place: a multi-author magazine, a guest-post series, a publication where knowing who wrote it changes how you read it.
Post types without authors
The box is not printed on a post type that does not support authors, and never on an attachment page, whatever the setting says.
