Footer padding
The breathing room above and below the footer content.

Every option gives the same space at the top as at the bottom. Earlier versions ran roughly 2:1, which was inherited from an older default and read as mis-set rather than as a style — a “Compact” footer with twice the air above it as below looks wrong, not compact.
Only Default steps down on small screens; every other preset holds its value at every width. So None really is zero on a phone, and Spacious stays spacious.
Choosing
- None — the footer content butts against the page. Use it with a dark skin and an Inline layout for a tight bottom bar.
- Compact — a modest sign-off.
- Default — right for most sites.
- Spacious / Extra spacious — the footer becomes a deliberate band of quiet at the end of the page. Pairs well with a dark skin.
Footer border
A line above the footer, separating it from the page.

The twin of the header border, matching it line for line, with one difference: the header defaults to Light line and the footer defaults to None, because that is what each has always drawn.
Use it when the footer takes the same background as the page — that is exactly the case where the footer has no visible start. Once you give the footer a background of its own via the skin, the colour change already says where it begins and a line on top of it reads as an extra.
On the dark footer skin the line flips to the light side automatically, so it stays visible against a dark band.
