Light
Emits nothing: the footer takes the page’s own background and text colours. The footer simply continues the page.

A dark footer under a light page is the single easiest way to give a blog a finished bottom edge. It closes the page, it separates the small print from the reading, and it costs one radio button.
Everything in the footer follows it: the copyright, the footer menu, the social icons and the border above it, which flips to the light side so it stays visible.

Both beat the skin when filled in. Same recipe as the header: pick the skin whose lightness matches your intended background first, then override the background, so the hairlines you cannot pick are already on the right side.
What goes with it
- Footer padding — a dark band with Compact padding reads as a strip; with Spacious it reads as a section
- Footer border — usually None once the footer has a background of its own, since the colour change already says where it starts
- Footer layout — Stacked or Inline
Contrast
The dark skin’s white-on-#111 is comfortably past AA. A colour of your own is yours to check — the copyright line and the footer menu are small text and need 4.5:1.
