OwlDraft → Analytics Settings. Two values to enter, and the reports appear under OwlDraft → Analytics.
You need a Google Analytics 4 property already created for your site, and Administrator access to it. If someone else set up your Analytics, they will have to do step 1 for you.
Step 1 — Let us read your Analytics
Nothing is entered on the WordPress side here. You are adding our reader address to your property in Google Analytics:
- Open Google Analytics and pick the right property in the top bar.
- Click the gear icon (Admin) in the bottom left.
- Click Property access management.
- Click the blue + in the top right, then Add users.
- Paste the address shown on the settings screen — copy it with the Copy button rather than typing it.
- Tick Viewer, untick Notify new users by email, and click Add.
The address can only read. It cannot change anything in your Analytics, cannot see any other property, and you can remove it from that same screen at any time.
If there is no Property access management in that menu, you are not an Administrator on the property.
Step 2 — Tell us which property
Back in WordPress, on OwlDraft → Analytics Settings:

The Measurement ID is optional, and only does one thing: it lets the plugin put the Google tag on your site so you do not need a second plugin for it.
- Add the Analytics tag to this site — leave this on if nothing else is tagging the site. If you already use Site Kit, GTM or a code-injection plugin, turn it off. Two tags means every visit is counted twice.
- Do not count logged-in editors and administrators — recommended. A small newsroom refreshing its own stories will otherwise bend the figures.
Under Who can see the reports, tick the roles that should be able to read the numbers. Administrators always can, and only they can change this connection.
Click Save settings.
Step 3 — Check it worked
Click Test connection. The plugin asks Google for one figure — sessions in the last seven days — and reports back in plain language:
- “Connected. Google reported N sessions in the last 7 days.” — done. The reports are live under OwlDraft → Analytics.
- A permission error — step 1 did not take. Check the address in Property access management, and that it is on the same property whose ID you entered.
- “Property not found” — the Property ID is wrong. It is the plain number from Property settings, not the
G-code and not the stream ID.
Figures are cached, so a fresh property that has just been tagged will read zero for a few hours until Google has data to give.
If the numbers look wrong
Everything is zero. Either the site is not tagged at all (fill in the Measurement ID and tick Add the Analytics tag), or you are looking at a property that no traffic reports to. View the page source of your home page while logged out and search for gtag to confirm the tag is there.
Every visit counted twice. Two tags on the page. Turn off Add the Analytics tag to this site, or remove the other plugin’s tag — not both.
Your own visits show up. Tick Do not count logged-in editors and administrators. It only excludes users who can edit posts, so readers and subscribers still count.
