If your members live in a membership plugin and your emails live in Mailchimp, you are running two lists that drift apart. Someone cancels their plan and keeps receiving the paid newsletter, because nothing told the email service. The answer is not a better sync. It is having one list. Why syncing two lists keeps breaking
A sync is a copy that has to be kept true. Every copy has a delay, and every delay is a window where the two sides disagree. A cancellation on Tuesday that reaches Mailchimp on Thursday means two paid newsletters went to somebody who stopped paying. Multiply that by refunds, failed cards, plan changes and manual edits, and the gap is permanent.
It also doubles the places a subscriber can exist. Unsubscribing in the email service does not cancel the plan. Cancelling the plan does not always remove the tag. Neither side is wrong; there are simply two of them.
What one list looks like in practice
One member record carries both facts: which plan they are on, and whether they take the newsletter. Sending the paid edition is a query against that record, not an export to somewhere else. When the plan ends, the query stops matching, and the next send skips them without anybody doing anything.
Does the email still get delivered?
The mail does not go out through your web host, which is the usual reason WordPress newsletters land in spam. OwlDraft Publisher hands the send to Resend. You paste one API key and the sending domain, reputation and bounce handling are theirs.
